Frequently Asked Questions

Does this mean the Billion.Global Coalition is aiming to see one billion people make decisions for Christ over a ten-year period?

While this would be wonderful, it is not the intended meaning. Jesus said in Matthew 7:14, “Small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” If one billion people are given the opportunity to understand and respond, the number who actually decide through repentance and saving faith to become followers of Jesus will be sadly much less.

How will the one billion opportunities be counted?

In order to fulfill the Billion.Global vision of giving one billion people at least one opportunity to hear, understand and believe the Good News of Jesus, each Billion.Global Coalition partner will need to keep track of how many people they have presented with at least one opportunity. To learn how each partner can keep track of these opportunities click here.

What are some of the greatest threats to this vision being carried out?

Pride – Thus must be all about Christ, not about us. Prayerlessness – Without it, we fail to be what he desires and to accomplish what honors him. Poor discipleship – An intentional journey of discipleship within a Christ-centered community of faith is an absolute, bibli- cal necessity to which we are deeply committed.

What is meant by “one opportunity”?

Billion.Global defines a valid opportunity as gaining enough understanding of the Gospel to be able to make a decision about following Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. We affirm the Holy Spirit’s role in bringing people to understanding, and while the process is different for each person, most people require multiple exposures to the good news accompanied by meeting and being able to observe, even interact with, an already-committed follower. Hearing the Gospel via media: radio, television, on social media, having exposure to it via the internet, and going to church can help to develop the need- ed understanding. However, as much as possible we encourage face-to-face encounters, where people hear the Gospel, get responses to their questions, and are invited to pray to receive Christ. We trust coalition partners to use wisdom and discernment in reporting opportunities that have been given.

Is there a specific way we should share the Gospel with others?

There are many different ways to tell the Good News, and there are many methods to do it. Each time it is told, aspects of the Gospel Story receive varying degrees of emphasis. This is to be expected when the message of God’s saving grace is conveyed by millions of people in millions of different situations and contexts. Even so, we believe it’s important to clarify what we mean when we speak of the Good News of Jesus. Click here to understand how to effectively share the Gospel with others around the world.
